Via Silicon Valley to Australia

After he obtained his master’s degree in India, Santhana worked in London for a while before moving to the US for six years where he spent time on both the East and West Coasts. After working for Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley, Santhana was offered the opportunity to relocate and he moved to Australia in 2001. He has lived here ever since, now with his wife and sons.  In recent years, Santhana has been working in security for different areas of State and Federal Government.

Mentoring at work and home

One of the aspects of training that Santhana most enjoys is the opportunity to work with junior colleagues in the industry and ‘give something back by sharing the knowledge he has gained throughout his career. Through passing on his skills, he feels that he also grows and learns. He takes great pleasure in mentoring and, outside of work, Santhana and his wife volunteer at a community language school. Santhana has also been involved in coaching a young cricket team on a volunteer basis.

From cycling to yoga

Before working from home during COVID-19, Santhana used to cycle over 25 kilometers every day for his commute. When the COVID-19 restrictions meant that it became harder to get out and about, he decided instead to take up yoga. He now practices yoga and meditation every day, enjoying the opportunity to learn new skills and become more flexible, as well as the mental well-being that meditation brings. He is also a keen member of a gym and walks for an hour every morning with a friend. Although he loves his work, he also enjoys taking the headset off and getting out into the fresh air as well, watching cricket or gardening in his vegetable patch.
