‘Some people are happy just talking to computers, I like talking to people’ – Hon Ming Chan
‘Some people are happy just talking to computers, I like talking to people’ he says. Although he feels he has found his passion in training, Hon Ming says it is important to keep consulting as well.
‘If you only work in training, you run the risk of losing out on real world knowledge,’ he says. When you are consulting as well as training, you experience the latest problems and environments. Then, you are able to feed that back into your training to keep it current for your students.”
Hon Ming’s many certifications include:
- Palo Alto Network Firewall (PCNSE)
- Alibaba Cloud (ACA, ACP)
- Arista Network (ACE)
- Infoblox (Core DDI, DNS, Network Insight, NetMRI)
- F5 Network (BIG-IP LTM, GTM Specialist)
- CICSI (Ironport Email & Web), CCIE in Routing and Switching, Ironport ESA, Ironport WSA
- CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional), CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional), CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate), CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CCSI (Cisco Certified System Instructor)
Hon Ming feels that his greatest achievement is his CCI certification – Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert, which he describes as the outcome of years of experience and hard work. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Information Technology from Lincolnshire and Humberside University in the UK.
Mr. Zombie and Jackie Chan
Since 2020, Hon Ming has found himself at home in Malaysia much more than usual thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. He confesses that he is not a fan of the Malaysian climate and misses travel and airports. However, he has been enjoying being able to spend more time with his wife and two children.
Before the pandemic, Hon Ming traveled extensively. He didn’t use an English name when overseas, so his colleagues in Australia gave him one: Jackie Chan, or Jackie for short.
However, back home in Malaysia, Hon Ming has another nickname. He is known as Uncle Zombie. The name came from a game he played with his children in the local park, chasing them like a zombie. More children joined in and his fame soon grew, with local parents even approaching him in the street to ask if he was ‘Mr Zombie”.
Hon Ming is passionate about his family and describes them as one of his greatest influences, inspiring him to work hard to provide them with a comfortable lifestyle. When he’s not at work or with his children, Hon Ming likes to be active, with swimming, cycling and Tai Chi.
