Red Education is excited to announce a new partnership with UK-based charity Number Champions as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. This collaboration will support Number Champions as they provide one-on-one numeracy assistance to primary school children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The goal is to help young learners build essential maths skills and gain the confidence they need for future academic success.
Mike Baird, CEO of Red Education, said, “We understand the importance of maths in shaping future careers, especially in today’s technology-driven world. Supporting Number Champions allows us to help equip the next generation with the skills needed for success in fields like science, technology, engineering, and IT. By focusing on children who lack access to educational support, we’re not just improving their numeracy but fostering the development of future problem-solvers and critical thinkers.”
“This partnership is about creating opportunities. Strong maths skills provide a foundation for lifelong learning and open doors to careers in sectors experiencing a skills shortage. We’re proud to support the important work of Number Champions, taking steps to ensure that every child has the chance to succeed, regardless of their background,” said Baird.
Bernard Manson, Chair of Number Champions, said: “We set up the charity because every primary school had volunteers helping children to read, but there was no equivalent for helping children who struggled with numeracy. Many children – especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds – fall behind in maths at an early age and never achieve the basic understanding and skills they need to achieve their educational potential. Number Champions seeks to give every child the support they need to enjoy maths, to gain confidence, and to acquire and practice the skills they need to keep up with classroom learning.
The support from Red Education is a welcome recognition of the importance of our work. Because it is long term, it will enable us to plan ahead so that we maximise the number of children we support in future years.”
About Number Champions
Number Champions is a British charity that provides one-to-one support for young children struggling with numeracy in primary schools, with a special focus on helping those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Using engaging games and activities, their volunteers help 6-7 year olds improve their maths skills and gain confidence, ensuring they no longer say, “I can’t do maths.” Currently partnering with over 30 state primary schools across London, Number Champions’ volunteers run weekly sessions for a full school year for children most in need.
To date, more than 1,300 children have experienced the program’s benefits, and the impact has been profound. Research shows that 86% of participants gained more confidence in maths, 79% became more engaged in lessons, and 83% made tangible progress in skills. The charity’s mission is to ensure every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to develop strong numeracy skills, laying the groundwork for a brighter future.
